Mr. Pako Thupayagale, a national of Botswana (African States), is the Director for Fixed Income (D-1) and joined the Office of Investment Management (OIM) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) on March 1, 2023. He brings a wealth of experience to the team and portfolio, having worked in the private sector, central bank, and sovereign wealth fund. Prior to joining, he spent 5 years at Ninety-One where he was a multi-asset portfolio manager. He spent 20 years at the Bank of Botswana where he was responsible for the management of Botswana’s sovereign wealth fund, the Pula Fund, which comprises global equities, fixed income, and currencies.   

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Finance from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Warwick, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics & Statistics from the University of Botswana. He also completed the Executive Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch, in South Africa. He has a track-record of peer-reviewed publications in academic and practitioner journals on equity and fixed-income markets across emerging markets.
